branching disrupts the center

branching centering

many ways pull at one middle: branching divides what a single center would hold. the tempering is real, and so is the field that lives through it.

imagery · the crossroads
· emergence
something new arrives

what arrives adds one more path to a pulled middle.

the branching has been pulling at the center; many ways divide what one middle held. into this, something arrives, one more path among the paths.

dawn enters a crossroads from its own direction. the arrival joins a field whose middle is being redrawn, and the new path is part of the redrawing.

&
· threshold
the balance reaches its tipping point

the balance tips at the crossroads.

a balance reaches its tipping point in a field where branching pulls at the center. the tip lands where the ways divide, so its weight goes to one path and the middle feels the choosing.

lightning takes one channel out of many. what tipped, tipped along a branch; the crossroads is where such things happen, and the field is built as one.

&
· coupling
each shapes the other

each shapes the other across the dividing paths.

each shapes the other in a field whose branching pulls at the middle. the shaping holds across the division: whatever runs between the two of them runs over the crossroads and stays connected.

aurora holds one pattern over scattered ground. the coupling is the field's continuity while its center is contested; the pair carries the middle between them.

&
· boundary
an edge forms

an edge forms among the many ways.

an edge forms in a field of dividing paths. some branches are inside it and some are out, and the middle that was pulled in every direction gains a first fixed line to be measured from.

the horizon steadies a scattered sky. the edge is the still thing in the field, and stillness in a branching field is a kind of center returning.

&
· yield
pressure meets no resistance

the pulled middle gives way and the paths keep running.

pressure arrives on a middle already pulled by many ways, and meets no fixed opposition. the middle gives; the paths run on. what the center could have spent defending itself stays in the field, moving.

cirrus lets the wind write through it. the structure holds as a whole, at ease in its many strands, its middle carried lightly.

&
· settle
the field finds its level

the many pulls find their level.

the field finds its level across every branch that pulled at the middle. each path receives its share, the tension distributing itself until the whole stands even.

dusk quiets a crossroads. the settled field shows what the pulling was: one body's weight, finding its way into all its limbs.

&
· return
something comes back

what comes back crosses the middle on its way.

something comes back to a field of many paths, and every path it might arrive by passes near the middle the branching pulled at. the return crosses the center whether the center held or gave.

moonlight falls on all the ways at once. the middle, whatever became of it, is still where the paths cross, and the return knows the field by it.
