condensing trims new branches

condensing branching

the drawing-inward prunes the spread: condensing trims what branching opens, and the remaining ways deepen. imagery family: the tended orchard.

imagery ·
· emergence
something new arrives

what arrives joins a field kept to its strong lines.

the condensing has been trimming new branches; the field keeps fewer ways, and keeps them well. into that tended field, something arrives, and it meets strength at once: what remains here has been chosen by the trimming.

dawn on a pruned orchard falls on load-bearing wood. the arrival joins a field that knows its own shape, and the shape has room in it.

&
· threshold
the balance reaches its tipping point

the balance tips along a kept branch.

a balance reaches its tipping point where condensing has trimmed the ways. the change runs a kept branch, one of the few, and so it runs deep: the trimming concentrated the field, and the tip inherits the concentration.

lightning strikes the tallest standing line. where the change could travel was settled by what the trimming kept; the tip and the pruning are one history.

&
· coupling
each shapes the other

each shapes the other along the kept ways.

each shapes the other in a field trimmed to its strong lines. their exchange runs the kept branches, and the trimming serves it: fewer ways, more of the field's life in each.

aurora narrows to its brightest band. the coupling is concentrated the way the field is concentrated; what passes between them travels a deep channel, tended.

&
· boundary
an edge forms

an edge forms where the trimming ended.

an edge forms in a trimmed field, out where the pruning stopped. inside the line, the kept branches; at the line, the field's decided extent. the trimming and the edge speak the same word: this much, well.

the winter horizon is close and clean. a field that knows its size carries its whole strength inside it.

&
· yield
pressure meets no resistance

the trimmed field bends and holds.

pressure arrives against a trimmed field and meets no fixed opposition. the kept branches bend; wood chosen by the trimming is supple, with nothing brittle left to snap. the field gives through its whole body and stands.

cirrus is what remains of a heavier sky, and it rides the wind whole. the trimming was the preparation; the yielding is its proof.

&
· settle
the field finds its level

the kept field comes to rest.

the field finds its level within its trimmed shape. the few branches settle, each carrying its full share, and the whole stands quiet inside the line the condensing drew.

dusk in a tended orchard is an early, easy dark. rest comes readily to a field with nothing extra to hold up; the trimming was generosity to this hour.

&
· return
something comes back

what comes back is met by the strongest branches.

something comes back to a field the condensing has trimmed. the ways that remain are the deep ones, so the return travels well: it is received by what the field most surely kept.

the moon returns to a winter tree and finds its true shape bare and held out. the trimming spent nothing that mattered; it was making room, and the return arrives into the room it made.
